PARTYING

For people with food allergies, parties can be a stressful proposition. The hosts may not understand food allergies and may serve snacks that contain your allergens. Guests don't want to inconvenience others, so they may avoid asking about the ingredients.

It is unrealistic to expect every menu item to be allergy-friendly, and there is no guarantee that you will be safe. You could offer to bring your own food if you are not comfortable with the options.

Before eating or drinking anything, make sure you have epinephrine with you. Don't leave home without it! It is important to have it everywhere you go in case of an allergic reaction.

Another potential danger of parties is cross-contamination. Guests may dip their hand into one bowl of snacks and then into another. To avoid this, serve yourself first.
